fun in birmy - oak mountain.

birmingham is beautiful!  & there is tons to do.  in fact, i think one of the neatest things about moving away from your home town is that you are more likely to explore & experience all sorts of new things.  after my cooking extravaganza on the fourth, blake & i decided to head to the wild outdoors with the tanky for a day of fun.

oak mountain is a huge & beautiful state park a bit south of birmingham in pelham, alabama.  there are tons of activities from fishing, mountain biking, camping, & swimming at the "beach".  although we definitely intend to head back for more of those days of fun (who knows, i, kendall porter, might camp.  we shall see), we chose to do a little hiking on this day.  by "little", i mean 5.5 miles.  & by "hiking", i mean actual hiking; not the walk along the pretty path kind to which is our normal.  note:  alabama = mountains that are called hills.  oklahoma = flat as flat gets.

t-man is a bit tired.

my husband is so strong.

how pretty is this??
note: we ended the hike on the pretty path type of hiking.

after our hike, we decided to drive over to the falls at oak mountain.  blake had seen amazing pictures on the website of these huge water falls.  well, after half of mile straight downhill to reach the falls, we discovered there was no water falling, not even rocks falling, nothing to be called "falls".  so then we got to hike half a mile straight up to end our hot & humid day.  it was tough, but we persevered!  & had a really fun time doing it.  in fact, we got to see this AWESOME view on our way back.  thanks, God :)

love life.  love my husband.  love birmy.

love love,
kjp.

  1. Knowing you are having so much fun makes it easier to have you gone. Enjoy Birmy! Moving away for residency was one of the best things Dave & I ever did. But we do miss you!
