beignets & coffee.

our vacation week in new orleans was absolutely wonderful!  to sum up everything we did in one sentence: we ate.  it's our favorite thing!  & new orleans is a gem for good food.  fancy food, street food, cajun, french, & seafood.  we ate it all & loved it all.

i could totally write a different blog post for each of our meals.  as that would take a really really long time, i probably wont.  but i will start with the meal i was most looking forward to:

cafe du monde's beignets & coffee.

cafe du monde was our breakfast stop three times & it was incredibly delicious all three times!  if you haven't had the opportunity to enjoy this place, you really should.  your options for breakfast are: how many orders of three would you like?  & your options for coffee: the famous cafe au lait, black coffee, iced cafe au lait, or frozen cafe au lait.

for my first experience, i had to go with the au lait.  beignets dipped in milky coffee?  so so good.  eaten in the streets of new orleans, even better.

by the way, there is no possible wait to eat this daintily.  i promise.  but that really makes it all the more fun.

on morning number two, we chose to eat our delicious breakfast on our quintessential new orleans blacony.  i will tell you more about our hotel another day, but this was one of my absolutely favorite new orleans experiences.  an adorable older gentlemen & his wife were on their patio across the street.  cars & people drove by.  the weather was fabulous.  it was perfect!

& morning three, we enjoyed our beignets & coffee on the poolside patio of our hotel.  even blakey enjoys some delicious powdered sugared fried bread.  how could you not??

the first morning, we sat outside this window where you could watch the bites of goodness being made.  a big ole man rolled out the dough, separated the pieces after a machine uniformly-ish cut them, tossed them into the gigantic vat of oil with a huge oil splash, & made sure they were fried perfectly.  a fun sight to see...

{thank you for the delicious treats, man!}

the best way to start our fabulous trip.  & so much more to come.

love love,
kjp.
