cowboy ribeyes with homemade steak sauce & marinade.

y'all, this meal was good.  maybe it's because blakey can cook an amazing steak.  maybe it's because blakey bought an awesome cut of beef.  maybe it's because it was the first time we've eaten steak in... a long time.  or maybe it's a little bit of all three.

for our steak, blakey found a fantastic marinade recipe he wanted to try.  it called for 2T of steak sauce, which we did not have.  however, i thought it was certainly something we could easily make.  sure enough, it is!

super easy steak sauce
original recipe: allrecipes

2 T ketchup
1 tsp yellow mustard
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 tsp apple cider vinegar
2 drops tabasco
salt & pepper

1.  stir it up & taste!

& then to these delicious cowboy rib eyes...

delicious cowboy rib eye steaks
original recipe: the bald chef

1 T evoo
1 T minced garlic
2 T low sodium soy sauce
{i always get asked why use low sodium or unsalted butter -
the answer is so you can control the amount of salt you put in.
the same reasoning behind not always going out to eat.
you know what you're eating when you do it.}
10 rounds of cracked black pepper
1 T salt
2 T molasses
4 oz whiskey
the 3-4 T of steak sauce from above
1 good sized rib eye steak

1.  in a small bowl, stir all of the ingredients {other than the steak} until well combined.

2. gently poke holes in the steak using a fork.  rub a few tablespoons of the marinade on each side of the steak.  transfer the steak to a plastic bag & pour the remaining marinade on top.  allow the steak to rest at room temperature for about an hour.

3. on a three burner grill, turn the outer two sections on high & the middle on low.  on the middle section of the grill, cook the steak for three minutes on each side.  this should allow the steak to cook without getting direct heat, which would char the steak.  so you should have a pretty awesome medium rare.

love love,
kjp.
